Day 5 – Falmouth, UK
Today we arrived at Falmouth. At approximately 7:30 this morning, the captain came on over the public announcement system to let us know that the seas were very rough and that we were under gale warnings. The port authority in Falmouth had decided to close the port due to the poor conditions. We were to have been tendered into port today and the waves were higher than the tenders which would have made the trip very dangerous if not impossible. The captain let us know that we would, therefore, be spending a day at sea.
We had wind gusts today of over 50mph and very high waves. This kept the boat rocking most of the day. Luckily Paul and I do not suffer from motion sickness, however, many others were having a difficult day as was obvious by all the “barf” bags distributed on all the stairways throughout the ship.
We were finally able to get on the internet today and I was able to update the blog and get some e-mails sent off. We have been having spotty service so far on the cruise, probably due to the poor weather we have experienced thus far.
They have decided to have a formal night tonight so we will dress up and have our picture made. Paul and I have gotten the hang of washing our clothes in the little sink in our cabin and have our clothes lines stretched all over our cabin. I’m sure our stateroom attendant is “very impressed” with us!!! Nothing like having your drawers on display!!
So no port visit but we are looking forward to tomorrow, with our fingers crossed, to our next port in Cork, Ireland. We will be going to Muckross House and to see the Lakes of Kilarney. The tour leaves at 7:15am and lasts 9 hours so it will be a long, hopefully dry, day.
